PlaySugarHouse is an online sports betting platform owned and operated by Rush Street Interactive, a Chicago, Illinois-based outfit.

However, starting in June 2020, Rush Street Interactive began rebranding most PlaySugarHouse branches to BetRivers so that the online sportsbook and casino could all be under the same name.

The first online SugarHouse Sportsbook was launched in New Jersey in August 2018. Today, there is one remaining branch in Connecticut partnered with the state lottery. However, it was announced in March that Rush intended to exit the Connecticut market later in 2023, meaning the brand could soon disappear.

SugarHouse launched in Connecticut in October 2021, and the New Jersey branch officially rebranded to BetRivers in August 2022.

While you can access and play SugarHouse PA, it’s more or less a reskin of the BetRivers site since the rebrand has already happened. Therefore, Connecticut is the only state that’s home to a “pure” SugarHouse site.

So, if you come across BetRivers, you’ll notice that these platforms are identical, and that’s because they’re the same site, just with a different name. It’s unclear if SugarHouse Connecticut will rebrand to BetRivers in the future.

While SugarHouse was available in other states like New Jersey and Pennsylvania, it has since rebranded to BetRivers. There’s currently one state that holds that SugarHouse name. Based on the rebrand, this will be the only branch to have the name now and in the future—don’t expect any new SugarHouse platforms to open.

You can only qualify for one credit a week, meaning you'll receive $10 if you place three of 12 SGPs weekly.

The free bet comes as a credit that expires seven days after receipt.

Tennis Parlay Insurance

When you bet a 4+ leg Tennis parlay, PlaySugarhouse will give you a 50% matched bonus bet of up to $25 if the wager loses. Final parlay odds must be at least +100, and all legs need to be from a tennis event to qualify for the promo.

The bonus bet will be added to your account within 30 minutes of the bet settling, and you will have seven days to use it.

As you saw in the pros/cons section at the top of this review, the odds are a big selling point at SugarHouse Sportsbook. Not only are they competitive compared to other sites when you look at wagers like the moneyline, point spread, and totals, but it also offers wider betting markets like props that other sites either have a limited selection of or don’t have whatsoever.

Additionally, players can access House Specials, which are like odds boosts for parlay wagers. These are available daily across multiple sports.

On top of having the ability to make live bets at SugarHouse Sportsbook, you’ll also be able to see live updates on the game. For example, suppose you were looking to live bet a soccer match and went to the game you were interested in. In that case, you’d see a graphic of a soccer field that shows what’s actively happening in the game. You’ll also see stats, such as when the goals were scored.

You’ll find similar things across other sports including player points in a basketball game or passing yards for football.

To find the live betting page, you’ll see it on the same menu where you’ll find the list of sports. Once you open the live betting page, you’ll see a list of all the live games sorted by sport.

While we covered multiple ways you can wager on sports above, one we didn’t mention was parlays.

At SugarHouse Sportsbook, you can bet on two types of parlays—traditional and Same Game.

Both of these work the same way, with the only difference being that traditional parlays are for multiple games. In contrast, Same Game Parlays focus on just one game.

Starting with traditional parlays, you must add two or more games to a single betslip. Each game added to the betslip is referred to as a leg.

When you add these contests to a parlay betslip, you’ll notice that the odds might be higher than each game's odds. Not only do parlay odds account for the individual odds of each game, but it also factors in risk.

The risk with parlays comes from needing all legs in a parlay to succeed in order for it to win.

For example, if you have two games that have odds of -139 and +460, the parlay odds become +863. So, if you bet $100 on this parlay and win, you’ll get $863.

With Same Game Parlays, you’ll focus on one game. An example of a Same Game Parlay could be betting on the number of receiving yards that Justin Jefferson has and the Minnesota Vikings’ moneyline.

You’re unable to parlay the moneyline and point spread together, though.

The early cash-out feature at PlaySugarHouse Sportsbook allows you to bail from a bet before it is settled. This could be because the bet is going poorly, or you’re winning and don’t want to risk a loss.  

You’ll be able to see if this feature is available to you when you review your bets once the game you wagered on is in progress. There will be a box you can click on that shows your potential payout.  

This feature allows you to salvage your original wager or take a small profit in order to bet on something else.

You can play Sugarhouse Sportsbook on both your desktop and by downloading a mobile app. When conducting this review, we explore the site on both platforms. We’ll comment on our experience below.

Where To Download: Just like with all sports betting apps, you can download and play the SugarHouse Sportsbook app on the Apple App (iOS) and Google Play Store (Android).

Lag/Buffering?: When we used the mobile app, we didn’t experience any lag or buffering. We even did a “stress test,” going between menus quickly to see how responsive it was, and it managed to do so without crashing.

Stability: When reviewing betting apps, we take hours to explore them thoroughly. During that time between actively scrolling and leaving it alone while writing notes, we never experienced any issues, as mentioned before.

Aesthetics: The SugarHouse brand is a lighter blue and white, and you’ll find that throughout the app. When you get to the homepage of the online sportsbook, you’ll find that the mobile app and desktop site are virtually identical.

UI Design: Overall, the user interface design is excellent. We will mention this, though—when you open the app, you’re greeted by the welcome bonus and a button to “scroll down.” Initially, we thought this would be to go to the sportsbook’s homepage, but instead, it’s information about live betting and other features. While this is valid information, it would be a bit easier to hit “scroll down” and immediately get into the sportsbook. Other than that, as mentioned, this is a carbon copy of the desktop site. You have a menu across the top of the app for the various games and live betting. There’s a menu along the bottom of the app for the sportsbook, with the sportsbook promos, bonuses, rewards, support, and your bet history.

Building Bets: When you click on something you want to wager on, the betslip immediately populates and appears toward the bottom of the app. For a single wager, you can add in what you want to bet and move along. More menus will appear for parlays, including ways to bet on each leg as a single wager, the parlay page, and also for building round robins. This was quite easy to use. No complaints here.

Live betting: You can bet live on the mobile app, and as we mentioned before, all of the same features on each game’s live betting page are available.

How to Download the App 

To download the app, simply visit the Google Play or Apple App Store and search for anything similar to “SugarHouse Sportsbook CT.” Other SugarHouse apps are available, but it’s primarily for the SugarHouse Pennsylvania casino.

Mobile Web 

While we’d recommend just downloading the mobile app, yes, you can wager at SugarHouse Sportsbook on your mobile web browser, such as Safari for an iPhone. The mobile site is the exact same as the mobile app. However, it can be a bit slower than the mobile app. The mobile app is designed specifically for SugarHouse, so you’ll have access to features like notifications.

If you’re at home and feel like jumping on your desktop to bet at Sugarhouse Sportsbook, you can do that.

With a larger screen, you’ll see much more, but as mentioned above, the mobile app and desktop site are carbon copies of one another.

At SugarHouse Sportsbook,  you can access numerous customer support methods, including an FAQ, live chat, and phone and email support. Looking over these methods, we found the representatives helpful and responsive. They answered all of our questions. However, the FAQ section left a bit to be desired. Specifically, the section about withdrawals and deposits has very little information.

To learn more about it, you need to create an account, which is OK, but for a prospective player, having this information readily available would help make more decisions.

On top of thousands of SugarHouse reviews across the app platforms (including 4.5 stars on the Apple App Store), SugarHouse Sportsbook is a legitimate and safe online sportsbook to play at.

While they are currently only licensed in Connecticut, it was announced they would be bowing out of the market later this year. That official date is still unknown and likely won’t be until the state finds a new operator.
