PointsBet started as an Australian-based sportsbook before landing on United States shores in January 2019, debuting in New Jersey. Fast-forward to today, and there are 14 PointsBet branches, with the most recent coming in January 2023 in Ohio.
However, PointsBet may be changing soon.
In June 2023, PointsBet USA was acquired by Fanatics, another online sportsbook best known for its online sports merchandise sales. The deal was valued at $225 million to rival DraftKings and FanDuel in online sports betting.
Now, depending on your state, your PointsBet site might be branded with “PointsBet, A Fanatics Experience.” In contrast, others are still branded solely as PointsBet.
In October 2023, New York approved Fanatics overtaking the PointsBet license, meaning it will no longer be available in the state.
