The Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) refused to grant access for DraftKings to add the 26.2-mile race’s odds under the “special events” category. Betting on the famous test of endurance has never been an option in its host state in the past.

The proposals are already receiving more support than similar pieces of legislation did last year when they failed to make it past committee hearings. The early support is symbolic of the building momentum inside of Texas that stems from increased support from lawmakers and public pressure.

Alabama is one of 14 states that have not legalized sports betting in any form. Two states, Ohio and Massachusetts, that launched their respective sports betting markets this calendar year have enjoyed highly fruitful periods since.

Instead of betting on which team would win a game or the final score, players could guess small outcomes such as the result of the next shot, pitch, or play.

Kentucky has been grappling with the idea of creating a legal sports betting market ever since the 2018 PAPSA opened the door to gambling nationwide. 36 states and Washington D.C. have since made the change, but Kentucky has not been able to reach any agreements.
