MLS Parlay of the Week | Week 11
Portland Timbers vs Charlotte FC Best Bet
Over 2.5 Goals (-150) | DraftKings
Neither of these squads can be accurately characterized as defensive juggernauts as both sit outside of the top 10 in goals allowed. Portland has been particularly poor in its own third of the pitch, letting in the second most scores in the league through the first few months of the season.
Over the Timbers’ last five games, there has been a combined score of four-or-more goals in every game. Overall thi season, 90% of the team’s matches have ended with more than two combined goals. Most sportsbook apps have the total goals line set at 2.5 for this game.
Charlotte has fared a bit better on defense, but is in the midst of a three-game streak with at least three combined goals per match. Playing host should also help ensure Charlotte contributes to the scoring. Dean Smith’s side have scored in all but one match in its own stadium.
D.C. United vs Philadelphia Union Best Bet
Over 2.5 Goals (-150) | DraftKings
In the nation’s capital, D.C. United and the Philadelphia Union will play for the first time this season. We have yet another match that seems ripe for scoring as both of these teams have made their bones on the offensive side of the pitch. Plus, if recent history can tell us anything, these two teams have combined for at least three goals in five of their last seven meetings.
United has been incredibly impressive with its creative attack, netting 1.4 goals per game. It has the fifth-best expected goals average as well and the third-best at home. Speaking of home matches, D.C. games in their own building have gone over 2.5 goals in four of their last five.
As for defense, United has failed to record a clean sheet in its last four matches and both teams have scored in five straight. In short, goals have been commonplace when this team plays at home.
Philadelphia’s recent matches have told a similar story, especially when playing on the road. Union hasn’t kept a clean sheet in its last three games, while betting over 2.5 goals would’ve cashed for soccer bettors in six of the team’s last seven.
LAFC @ San Jose Earthquakes Best Bet
LAFC o1.5 Goals (-115) | DraftKings
The San Jose Earthquakes have had a rough season in 2024, owning last place in the Western Conference after 10 games. They also allow the most goals per game in the entire MLS at 2.5 per contest.
LAFC, meanwhile, are hyper efficient when it comes to scoring goals. Former USMNT midfielder Steve Cherundolo has his team in peak form offensively. LA has scored the second-most goals this season with the second-highest expected goals rate behind only Inter Miami FC in both cases.
It’s therefore quite surprising that we get this prop so low for the taking. We’re talking about a top two offensive side against what is unequivocally the worst defense in the league. Throw in the added angle of this California rivalry and LA has plenty of reason to bury its conference foe to the north.
