The 13-member group submitted its findings in a 95-page report. The Mississippi legislature is planning to explore an online sports betting bill during the 2024 session, which starts on Jan. 2, though many lawmakers still oppose the expansion of gambling.

DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics Sportsbook were all awarded six-year online operator’s licenses. A total of five sportsbooks submitted applications to the Vermont Department of Liquor and Lottery, and those three were selected after a thorough vetting process.

Richard Daynard, who teaches at Northeastern University, said that there are glaring similarities between marketing strategies employed by sports betting operators and tobacco companies. Following his lead, The Public Health Advocacy Institute, at which Daynard serves as president, filed a lawsuit against DraftKings in Massachusetts last Friday. 

A committee that will be in charge of drafting the bill is expected to introduce a plan to legalize sports betting at a variety of retail locations. It will also focus heavily on ridding the state of illegal operators, which is a priority for Ledbetter.

Police were present at the casino at the time of the shooting but did not fire their weapons. Instead, a bystander discharged their weapon when they noticed the suspect fleeing, ultimately killing them and ending their escape attempt.

During his announcement, Stitt rolled out a plan that would bring retail sports betting to facilities operated by local tribes. It would also allow Oklahomans to participate in mobile sports betting with commercial sportsbooks licensed and regulated by the state.

The Department of Public Safety confirmed Tuesday that the state has accepted and adopted a series of rules and regulations for the legal sports betting market. Operators were allowed to start pre-launch advertising and promotions and customers were allowed to create accounts as of Wednesday.

“Craps, roulette and sports betting will launch to the public on Thursday, December 7 at all three Seminole Casinos in South Florida: Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood, Seminole Classic Casino in Hollywood and Seminole Casino Coconut Creek,” the statement said.

The California Attorney General’s office received two new proposals called “The Tribal Gaming Protection Act” and “The Sports Wagering Regulation and Tribal Gaming Protection Act.” The first deals with the creation of the legal sports betting market, and the second, the rules and regulations that would govern it.

Casey Eure (R) said to 11 members of the Mississippi mobile sports betting task force that he plans to follow up on his failed sports betting bill from last year, HB 606. The bill was created with the intent of legalizing sports wagering but was later amended and led to the creation of the task force.
