Following the NFL Hall of Fame game to kick off the NFL Preseason, we have the first full week of NFL action, including weekend games. Rounding out the weekend are two games on Sunday, including the Kansas City Chiefs and New Orleans Saints.

Below, we’ll examine this matchup using all of the latest information we have. Sometimes, NFL Preseason football can be hard to peg betting-wise, but we’ll leverage the best betting odds from the major sports betting sites to find value.

Let’s dive in.

Previewing the Kansas City Chiefs

Regarding the preseason, it all comes down to motivation, getting certain young players some time, and brushing up on the playbook.

According to PJ Green of Fox4KC, the Chiefs will play the first-team players in the first quarter, backups in the second, and so on.

Therefore, we’ll see Patrick Mahomes suit up to start the game. This gives the Chiefs a massive advantage.

The only players ruled out of the preseason game are the following:

  • RB Isiah Pacheco
  • DT Tershawn Wharton
  • TE Jody Fortson
  • WR Kadarius Toney
  • CB L’Jarius Sneed

It’s a bit risky to put Mahomes out there for any time that isn’t necessary, but this is a massive bonus for betting purposes. The Chiefs are 2.5-point underdogs, per DraftKings Sportsbook.

Previewing the New Orleans Saints

The Saints recently signed linebacker Jaylon Smith and have released wide receiver Keke Coutee. Given that the signing was so recent, it’s doubtful we’ll see Smith play.

As for what players to expect from the Saints, we’re not sure what their plans are. However, considering that they’re turning things over to a new quarterback in Derek Carr for 2023, it wouldn’t be shocking to see him get a series or so here.

There are some rookies that will look to get some valuable snaps here, including wide receiver A.T. Perry, offensive lineman Nick Saldiveri, running back Kendre Miller, defensive lineman Bryan Bresee, defensive end Isaiah Foskey, and even quarterback Jake Haener.

The quarterback room for the Saints behind Carr, which includes Haener and Jameis, Winston, is arguably better than the Chiefs backups, Blaine Gabbert, Shane Buechele, and Chris Oladokun. The Saints are 2.5-point favorites at BetMGM Sportsbook.
