Encore Boston Harbor was fined $40,000 by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) for allowing users to place bets on Boston College women’s basketball last year. That was the second time since July the casino was fined for the same infraction.

The East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office responded to a call from one of the children around 3:45 p.m. on February 12 that the victim, Blessing Buckles, was unconscious. They arrived to find eight children, ranging from 11 months to 12 years old, were home with no adult supervision.

Sen. John Burzichelli submitted a bill on Monday that would uphold the current law that limits smoking to 25% of casino floor space. However, it would allow smoking in unenclosed designated smoking areas no more than 15 feet away from table games with dealers.

DeSantis, who ended his presidential campaign two weeks ago, failed to convince important legislators to join his divisive pro-casino push. However, he still has three years left in office and appears as if he will help drive the casino bill process forward in the upcoming legislative sessions. 

Workers at Kansas casinos cheered on the introduction of a bill that would make cigarettes illegal on gambling floors at local venues. The Sunflower State is one of just 11 states that still do not have legislation against smoking inside casinos.

Virginia Sen. Dave Marsden (D-Fairfax) introduced a bill to build a casino in his native Fairfax County. The current plan calls for the creation of a property with enough size and amenities to challenge the popularity of the MGM National Harbor on the Potomac River.

Mayor Eric Adams’ office showed support for a new measure that would allow casino-build projects to commence without falling victim to the land-use review, which has spelled the end of many previous proposals. However, Manhattan Community Board 6 voted Wednesday 39-1 against the idea.

Jordan Lewis Cook, 26, will also have to pay back $84,564 in stolen funds he took from cash-out machines on the casino campus. He will undergo two years of supervised release once he completes his four-month stay in prison.

Blake C. Fitzgerald, 40, live-streamed himself playing slot machines for gamblers who paid in advance. He was handed one felony charge in addition to three gross misdemeanor charges for instructing his viewers to break gambling laws.

Johnson’s comments a couple of weeks after Mark Cuban agreed to sell a majority share of the Dallas Mavericks to Miriam Adelson, the largest individual shareholder in Las Vegas Sands and widow of the company’s founder. Both Cuban and Adelson already expressed interest in bringing a casino into Texas’ second-largest city.
