Massachusetts legalized retail sports betting on January 31 and less than three months after it launched online sports betting on March 10. Members that were present during the meeting unanimously voted to send a letter that asked for an investigation of offshore sites to U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland.

HB1942, dedicated to legalizing online sportsbooks, had the full support of the Texas Sports Betting Alliance, which features former Gov. Rick Perry, sports betting industry giants BetMGM, DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics, and with owners and representatives of local professional sports teams and more.

The project will see the completion of a casino, hotel, and entertainment venue on Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale’s 72 acres of space. The development will occur around the Coliseum, which is a multi-purpose arena that is situated just about seven miles east of Queens, a borough of New York City.

The Senate Commerce and Insurance Committee delivered its verdict in favor of HB 347 roughly one month after the House of Representatives voted on the sports betting bill. The changes of note were to the tax rate and addition of pari-mutuel betting on horse racing events.

The partnership, signed in 2020, was designated to run through the 2025-26 school year. It had drawn criticism in recent months because of how it allegedly marketed and encouraged sports betting for college students, a claim that both parties denied was the focus of their union.

According to the American Gaming Association (AGA)’s Commercial Gaming Revenue Tracker, the first quarter of 2023 resulted in a three-month record revenue total of $2.79 billion. That’s a 70.1% increase year-to-year and a slight improvement over the previous quarterly record of $2.61 billion from Q4 2022.
